Risk Disclosure
Know the waters before you sail. Every voyage carries risk.
⚠️ Read Carefully
This Risk Disclosure is not a substitute for independent professional advice. Trading and investing in financial markets involves substantial risk of loss. You should carefully consider whether trading is suitable for you in light of your circumstances, knowledge, and financial resources.
1. General Risk Warning
Severe The value of investments can go down as well as up. Past performance is not indicative of future results. You may lose all of the capital you invest. Do not trade with money you cannot afford to lose.
Stockhelm provides educational content, analytical tools, and simulation environments only. We do not execute trades, manage portfolios, or provide personalized investment advice. Any trading decisions you make are entirely your own responsibility.
2. Market Risks
2.1 Price Volatility
Severe Financial markets are inherently volatile. Prices of stocks, ETFs, options, futures, currencies, and other instruments can fluctuate dramatically within short periods. You may experience rapid and substantial losses.
2.2 Liquidity Risk
High Not all securities can be bought or sold quickly at a fair price. In thinly traded markets, you may be unable to exit a position without accepting a significant loss.
2.3 Market Disruptions
High Trading halts, exchange closures, technology failures, and geopolitical events can prevent you from executing trades when you need to. Circuit breakers and volatility interruptions may lock you into positions.
2.4 Gapping Risk
High Prices can "gap" up or down between trading sessions, bypassing your stop-loss orders. A stop order does not guarantee execution at your desired price.
3. Leverage & Margin Risks
Severe Trading on margin or using leveraged products (options, futures, CFDs, forex) amplifies both gains and losses. A small adverse price movement can result in losses exceeding your initial investment. You may be required to deposit additional funds immediately or face automatic liquidation of your positions.
Leverage is a double-edged sword. It can build empires and sink fleets in the same tide.
4. Strategy & Methodology Risks
4.1 No Strategy Works Forever
High Every trading methodology—including those taught in our Sextant Guides—can and will experience periods of underperformance. Market regimes change. What worked in the past may not work in the future.
4.2 Backtesting Limitations
High Historical backtests and simulations do not account for slippage, commissions, market impact, liquidity constraints, or psychological factors. Real-world results will differ—often significantly—from simulated results.
4.3 Overfitting
Moderate Strategies optimized for historical data may perform poorly on new data. A model that "curve-fits" the past is not a model of the future.
5. Psychological & Behavioral Risks
High Trading is emotionally demanding. Fear, greed, overconfidence, and revenge trading can cause rational traders to abandon their plans and take catastrophic losses. No calculator or guide can eliminate the human element.
Our tools and content are designed to support disciplined decision-making, but they cannot enforce discipline. You are solely responsible for managing your own psychology and behavior.
6. Technology Risks
6.1 Platform Reliability
Moderate Stockhelm's calculators, tools, and data feeds may contain errors, delays, or inaccuracies. We do not guarantee real-time data accuracy. You should verify all calculations and prices independently before acting.
6.2 Cybersecurity
Moderate While we implement security measures, no system is immune to hacking, data breaches, or service interruptions. You assume the risk of unauthorized access to your account.
7. Regulatory & Tax Risks
Moderate Securities laws, tax rules, and reporting requirements vary by jurisdiction and change over time. You are responsible for understanding and complying with all applicable laws in your country of residence. Stockhelm does not provide tax or legal advice.
8. Community & Social Risks
Moderate Content posted in the Mess Deck, forums, or comments represents the views of individual users, not Stockhelm. Other users may have conflicts of interest, may be promoting positions they hold, or may simply be wrong. Do not make trading decisions based on anonymous forum posts.
9. Foreign & Emerging Market Risks
High Investing in foreign markets exposes you to currency risk, political risk, regulatory risk, and differences in accounting standards. Emerging markets carry additional volatility and liquidity concerns.
10. Cryptocurrency & Alternative Asset Risks
Severe If you choose to trade cryptocurrencies or other alternative assets, you face extreme volatility, regulatory uncertainty, exchange failures, and the risk of total loss. These markets operate with limited oversight and investor protection.
11. Simulation vs. Reality
Moderate The portfolio simulation features on Stockhelm use hypothetical data. Simulated trading results have certain limitations, including the benefit of hindsight and the absence of emotional pressure. Success in simulation does not predict success with real money.
12. Your Responsibility
Before trading, you should:
- Assess your financial situation, investment objectives, and risk tolerance.
- Seek advice from a qualified financial advisor, accountant, or attorney.
- Educate yourself thoroughly about the instruments you intend to trade.
- Start with a demo or simulation account before risking real capital.
- Never trade with borrowed money or funds needed for essential living expenses.
- Develop and test a written trading plan before entering any position.
13. Acknowledgment
